Israel Memorial Day – May 9th 2011

May 9, 2011

Every year Israel marks Yom Hazikaron (or Memorial Day) to commemorate the servicemen and women who have fallen in defense of the State of Israel and civilians who have been killed in terror attacks. The day brings forth devastating memories of the past, and reawakens hidden wounds in many of Israel’s population. This May, NATAL has launched a nationwide media campaign in order to reach those who suffer, and remind them about our services during this difficult time.

NATAL’s Memorial Day media campaign, May 2011:

We would like to inform you that on May 3rd NATAL launched a Memorial Day media campaign on Israeli national TV stations, radio stations and newspapers, with the central aim of publicizing our services to those who continue to suffer from war and terror related trauma. In addition, over one million copies of our magazine “About Feelings” were distributed in Israel’s national newspapers on the weekend prior to Israeli Independence Day.

This edition of “About Feelings” focuses on the complex relationship between the media and trauma, featuring an interview with Rona Ramon (wife of Ilan Ramon, the first Israeli Astronaut who died in a re-entry accident from space, and mother of Captain Asaf Ramon who also tragically died at the age of 21 during a routine training flight while piloting his F-16A). In this article, Rona shares her double trauma following the death of both her husband, and her son, its affect on her life and the role the media plays in her trauma.
